Nicolas Kiefer of Germany beat Cyril Saulnier of France 7-6(0) 6-3 7-6(4)
Alberto Martin of Spain lost to Hyung-Taik Lee of Korea 4-6 6-7(3) 1-6
Barbara Schett of Austria won her doubles match with partner Patty Schnyder against the Serra Zanetti Sisters Maria Kirilenko of Russia lost to Lisa Raymond of the USA  4-6 7-6(3) 2-6
Venus Williams of the USA beat qualifier Shikha Uberoi of the USA 7-5 6-1

Shikha had received a 'Wild Card' into the Qualifying Draw and managed to play her way into the second round of the Main Draw. It was an exciting match in Arthur Ashe Stadium and Shikha, as well as her father and sister, seemed pleased with her performance. The crowd loved her and we all hope to see her back 'on stage' real soon...
