Andre Agassi
of the United States
beat Taylor
Dent
of the United States
6-7(5), 6-4, 7-5, ret.
Taylor Dent retired with a leg injury.
The match was interrupted twice by rain and
was the only match to be completed today....
...in spite of efforts by certain players
who were eager to get their matches under way...! |

"Hey, it's just a little noise and a few people
wandering about. No big deal. Come on Andre, let's get a few
points in before it starts raining again... Whaddya say? You're
leaving? I can't hear a damn thing... "

"The tournament committee have been meeting
all day.
We believe we have come up with a solution to this problem.
Now, if we can all form a circle and hold hands, I will begin
the chant....
Hey! No rushing the stage, we're doing our best here..."
Brian Earley, tournament referee |

But, on the bright side - the only one to be
seen today - the wet courts did provide plenty of employment
opportunities when the rain looked as though it would relent -
only to return as soon as the squeegeers and towelers had earned
their pay.... |
 |
At least one of these two patient fans chose
to wear an appropriate sweater for this wet and gloomy day.
See if you can guess which one...! |
 |
"My friend, he tell me it is sunny and warm in
New York.
I kill him with my bare hands - just as soon as it is warm
enough to take these woolly gloves off..." |
