Lina was born in Russia in 1984 and still lives in Obninsk with parents Vladimir and Marina - about 65 miles from Moscow. Marina is Lina's main coach and travels with her to many tournaments.

She turned pro in 1999 and reached a career high ranking of 34 before suffering a torn ligament in her left ankle at the 2002 Australian Open. This injury kept her out of the game for several months and problems with treatment caused more extensive damage that seriously affected her ability to compete.

Lina studies at the Sports University in Moscow. Unlike most countries, Russia takes sports coaching very seriously. "You have to study for six years to become a certified tennis coach in Russia," Lina explains.

It will be no surprise that Lina has been featured in several fashion magazines - such as Russian Vogue. Her athleticism and beauty are very evident both on and off the court....
