Dusan Vemic |
|
Dusan was born on June 17, 1976 in a part of Yugoslavia that is now Croatia.
His family currently lives in Belgrade, Serbia-Montenegro His
father Veselin was a member of the National Decathlon Team and, inevitably, Dusan was
exposed to sports from an early age. His interests were in Gymnastics and
Track & Field before picking up a tennis racquet for the first time at age
11.
His tennis career flourished and led to a career best singles ranking of 176 in 1998. His most memorable victories were over Feliciano Lopez, Tommy Robredo, Fernando Gonzales, Taylor Dent and Max Mirnyi. He then suffered a few years of self-diagnosed "brain injury" where he admits that he "sort of fell off the tennis-radar-screen". Dusan has regained his focus and is now steadily fighting his way back up the rankings by playing Futures and Challenger events throughout the world. For the past 10 years he has been enjoying a racquet sponsorship by HEAD and he proudly displays a collection of sunglasses and fashionable sports clothing courtesy of Oakley. He is also lucky enough to call the Broadmoor, a five-star luxury hotel in Colorado Springs, his 'home-away-from-home', where his coach Dennis Ralston (former coach of Chris Evert and Gabriela Sabatini) is the Director of Tennis. Besides tennis, he enjoys playing golf ("I'm still learning, but I just broke 100 last month!!!"), listening to music (Busta Rhymes, 50 Cent, Santana, Ozzy, Nirvana), reading (favorite book - 'It's not about Bike' by Lance Armstrong) and watching movies (favorite - 'Dumb & Dumber'). |
