Finally the alley ends in a larger area of stores and commercial units alongside a major road
A delivery emerges from a large building on our left. A textile store is on the corner
Around the corner we are suddenly in a maze of rows and rows of stores with piles of textiles of all colors and textures.
In this one building alone there are over 1,000 individual units.
Some of the unit owners have clearly seen their business grow and prosper No matter how primitive their means of transport, it is remarkable how well-dressed everyone is
The kids find a corner to practice their drawing skills.
This group adopts us in place of the boys and pink girls on roller-blades that we finally leave at the end of their alley.
They are exuberant and constantly bringing us little things to examine - a piece of mirror tile or an old coin or piece of carved wood.
As we emerge onto the street on the other side of the building, a gateway beckons us to explore further
Crossing the street is an adventure all of its own. Survival depends on an ability to spot a path through the constantly moving flow of traffic. The varying speeds of vehicles and their tendency to switch lanes in an instant makes the process either exhilarating or life-threatening - or both. One thing you do need to know - drivers will NEVER pay the slightest attention to anyone trying to cross the road. Waiting for someone to allow you cross in front of them is futile. Getting stuck in the middle of the road will result in traffic whizzing by within inches but not in anyone stopping to let you cross.
There are may along the road who look as though they have come into the city to do a little shopping for their local store in the country and are waiting for the bus home.
We wait around for a while in the hope of seeing how people and purchases manage to get aboard but there is too much going on around us to linger anywhere for too long.
A slice of melon on a stick seems to be a favorite roadside snack
A game of cards in a convenient corner helps to pass the time
Pretty girls are everywhere...
...as are people ready to enjoy the process of someone sneaking up on them to take their picture.
