Martina Navratilova of the USA received a special award as a result of being the first player to win the singles, doubles and mixed doubles titles at all four grand slam events. Martina won her first grand slam title almost 30 years ago and finally added the missing title - the mixed title at the Australian Open - earlier this year.

"This is a stunning achievement and one that is not likely to ever be repeated," said WTA CEO Larry Scott who made the presentation.

Martina urged the fans who watched the presentation to always cherish their hopes. "it's never too late to realize your dreams," she said.

The fact that even fellow tournament players had turned out to watch the presentation made it particularly memorable for her, she said. As a fellow player, she knew just how special something had to be to get them out onto the court....
